Traditional Styrian recipies
Christmas Cookies
- 1kg flour
- 2tsp ammonium carbonate
- a little vanilla sugar
- 1 packet paking powder
- 1/2 liter whipping cream
Mix all the ingredients to a firm dough and roll it ca. 5mm thick, put it on a baking tray and bake. Cut it into long pieces (ca. 2cm x 5cm).

Chocolate-pumpkin seed-cake
- 5 egg whites beaten till stiff
- add 10dag Sugar and beat until dough is firm
- 5dag flour with
- 1ts baking powder add
- 10dag grated semi-sweet chocolate and
- 10dag grated pumpkin seeds,
- Add 5 egg yolks,
- 3dag melted butter and
- 2ts rum
Put in cake tin and bake at 190°C for approximately 50 minutes.

Strudel dough basic recipe
- 1/4kg flour
- 1ts oil
- 1/8 liter lukewarm water
- salt
Mix all until the dough is smooth, beat strongly and let it sit for approximately 30 minutes.
STRUDEL VARIATIONS
Cabbage Strudel
- Cut one 1 small cabbage into fine lines
- add 1 tsp salt and
- 1 tsp caraway
- pepper according to taste - let soak for one hour
- 4 ts lard
- 2 small onions finely chopped (roast in lard)
- 1 ts vinegar
- 4-5 ts water
Preparation:
Squeeze the excess liquid out of the cabbage and mix the cabbage with the roasted onions. Add vinegar, pour in water and steam. Let it cool then put it on the rolled out strudel dough and bake approximately 50 minutes.

Potato Strudel
- 1 kg potatoes (cooked and mashed)
- 1-2 onions (finely chopped and roasted in oil)
- 2-3 ts grieves
- salt, pepper and caraway
Preparation:
Mix all the ingredients and put on the rolled out strudel dough. Roll together and bake approximately 50 minutes.

Pumpkin seed oil omelette
- beat 4 eggs
- add 1ts whipping cream - according to taste
- add salt and pepper
- pour into pan with moderately heated pumpkin seed oil
Serve the omelette with grated pumpkin seeds on top.
