The Bad Gleichenberg region was not always as idyllic as it is today. 15 millons years ago this was an abctive volcanic area but thanks to these volcanoes today we have such fertile landscape.
There are numeros hikes around these extinct volcanoes. Along the way you can experience a true buffet of images of an extensive hilly landscape.
Discover the interesting scenes and stages of legends about witches, fire and water, healing springs, construction-, culture- and nature monuments. Follow the traces of volcanoes.
The main route along the so-called "backbone" takes you from Riegersburg, to the Steinberg and the stone quarry in Gossendorf and to the millstone quarry in Bad Gleichenberg. From there you cross the valley in Bad Gleichenberg and head to Merkendorf, then towards the Stradener Kogel and the Waltra rock. The trail further leads along the backbone to Tieschen, Klöch and Halbenrain to Bad Radkersburg.
