Bad Gleichenberg, known for being a spa town, was founded more than 180 years ago in South East Styria. In order to celebrate this, the tourist board Bad Gleichenberg annually hosts a big Biedermeier festival in the middle of June. The whole town of Bad Gleichenberg bevomes a stage when hundreds of people in historic guise saunter through the Kurpark, when chrming Viennese cafés and restaurants invite theirs guests to stay, when rare crafting goods are offered in noble gazebos and when open-air concerts with strains of waltz and marching music create a vibe so full of history. The spectacular trees of the Kurpark offer pleasant shade and the "Imperial Court Market" an the main square invites guests to a get-together.
10 a.m.: Start of the festival when the historic groups make their entrance, coming from the Schnurbaumallee via the main square to the festival area of the Kurpark. Trumpets announce to the festival area of the imperial couple and the aristocratic society escorted by the Emperor's Hussars on horseback and the town watch of Feldbach. Attendant to them are the protagonists in their Biedermeier costumes.
The Mailand Hall - once the dining holl of one of the biggest hostels of the k.u.k. (Imperial and Royal) time - offers a dazzling setting for this evening. The Girardi Ensemble will perform the most beautiful compositions by the king of waltz, Johann Strauß, and his fellows.

Experience a romantic picnic in historic guise as in the times of empress "Sisi"! The green meadow around the redwood tree being more than 100 years old becomes the picnic spot in the upper Kurpark. For this purpose, harmonious songs of historic family music are played. AT 4p.m., it's "everybody waltz" to the sound of the Blue Danube waltz at the fountains on the main square. Those who don't want to bring their own basket can have their basket comiled accordning to their own taste on site at the "Imperial Court Market"
